Anatomy of The Game is an ongoing project to create a novel framework for understanding the fundamentals of football, through models and theses that illustrate the foundational concepts of how The Beautiful Game is played.

The models and theses herein are not intended to be a biased prescription of how football should be played; rather, they are attempting to encompass all the different styles and evolutions of modern football to explain how football is played. They can be applied to tiki-taka positional play, just as much as high-verticality counterattacking, as well as the much-maligned “long-ball” football.

It is my hope that this new framework will become a seminal set of works that defines the general understanding of O Jogo Bonito.
